Getting column headers into Excel

Need help getting SAP data into Microsoft Excel? Veteran site expert Matt Billingham has advice.

I am downloading data into an Excel sheet with fields like date and quantity. I would like the heading of each column in the Excel sheet.

If I take another internal table and insert the headings, and then move all the contents of the first table into...

this second table, it will not let me move the date field and numeric field in that table because the heading for all the fields should be of the same character type.

How can I get the heading of each column into the Excel spreadsheet?

If you use an ALV Grid Control, then the headers will be automatically handled when downloaded to Excel. If you are transferring the data as CSV or Fixed Length, then you read all the fields into character fields before output. You can use the write command to force date and numeric fields to cast into character fields.
