BAPIs are supposed to have extension parameters for this purpose (see SAP BAPI Programming Guide). If a particular BAPI does not follow this rule, you need to subclass the object type, copy the BAPI to the subclass and extend it yourself. This may not be trivial, though. Please let SAP know that you would like the BAPI to follow the rules.
