Evaluating BW on a Windows/Oracle platform

We are currently in the process of evaluating BW on a Windows/Oracle platform with the source R/3 system running on a UNIX platform. Is this a feasible, scalable and reliable scenario? Please advise.
SAP is more or less platform independent. It is perfectly possible to run your application servers on Windows while the central instance and the database are running on Unix, or on AS/400 for that matter. The same goes for the different SAP components. You can run your BW, CRM and SCM on one platform while R/3 is running on another. All communication goes via RFC which is platform independent.

The only question to answer is if this not make the environment unnecessarily difficult. One system is running...

on Unix, the other on Windows. It might make things difficult from an administrative point of view.
