We have an SRM Server 5.0 installation, and we are looking to keep all material-related information on the R/3 side (MM module). The plan is to download the material information like material groups from R/3 and then set up processes to do the synchronization (R/3 being the material master). Is this doable?

Can this senario also be extended to make R/3 the source for the workflow information in a similar way?

I'm not sure I fully understood your question. Master data of material groups and materials can be downloaded from the back end system into SRM via the middleware functions available. Once you've downloaded the initial materials, all changes to these materials are downloaded into SRM automatically as a delta load. Also, any new materials within the same filter group will download automatically. Keep in mind that there is no delta load for material groups.
