Determining the buffer values in R/3

To avoid swaps occurring in our R/3 4.6 C production system, we are required to increase the sizes in certain buffers. Can you tell me how to determine the proper values for buffers by analyzing the history swaps?

There is no easy way to determine the values for buffers by analyzing the history swaps. It's a give-and-take exercise, in which you increase buffers and decrease others until you reach an optimal configuration.

The only thing to take into account is that certain buffers are more important then others. For example, the ABAP program buffer may swap up to 10.000 programs a day without causing any performance impact. Swaps in the full/generic table buffer and export/import buffer should be avoided as much as possible.
