Creating outbound SAP 3.1H interfaces to Web apps

What is the recommended method for creating outbound SAP 3.1H interfaces to a web application? (Creating custom...

BAPI's?) What if we need to create inbound interfaces as well?

All you need to do is define the interfaces of the functions you want to call in the SAP Function Builder (SE37). Then you write a server class using SAP's Java Connector (JCo), and use regular "CALL FUNCTION ... DESTINATION ..." statements in ABAP to invoke the server functions. Inbound interfaces will also be defined (and implemented) in the SAP Function Builder. Additionally, you can BAPIfy your functions, but that is not really required.
