Creating a testing environment

We have a large production database (approaching 1 Terabyte) and our Test system is very small and no volume related...

or realistic testing can be carried out. We are looking at options for creating a more realistic testing environment but we cannot afford to replicate the Production environment (Storage costs). Do you know of a way to create a 'cut down' production environment i.e. Master data + a couple of months worth of transactional data?

You're in a tough spot there because part of an SAP implementation is to size all systems in an R/3 landscape.

My suggestion is to export the production client using the copy profile SAP_UCSV (Customizing, variants, and user master records). Then, you would have to use ALE technology to move data some production to development.
