Can SAP XI fully replace the Business Connector?

We want to establish a new system to handle the exchange of XML-documents orders and invoices to and from our business partners. My question: is the XI (Exchange Infrastructure) ready for that, or do we need to consider BC (Business Connector)?

Yes, it is designed to be a universal full-featured message queing system to compete with all of the market leaders in the middleware section like WebSphere/MQ, Mercator, Tibco, IBM CrossWorlds, WebLogic and many, many more and of course it can exchange XML data in every direction.

The only question is whether you want to install (and pay for) SAP/XI only for exchanging invoices? If you are on SAP Enterprise it might also be sufficient to use the built in XML functionality and using the WebAS features. Of course, it is a different aspect if you are using SAP/XI anyway.
