SAP is of course smart to treat CATTs this way. Any time you do conversion like items in a productive system there is an implied risk. I'd say that you should always follow SAP recommend standards where possible and you can certainly write an interface program to handle this. That being said, I don't think I've been at a client where some FI or PA person wasn't doing something with a CATT in production. Now, obviously that doesn't mean it is safe. What it means is that much like modifications, there exists a perfect, ideal world that everyone would like to follow and a real world where risks are balanced with benefits.
