Best path for FI-consultant to get into NetWeaver

I am a FI/CO consultant in SAP -- but more of an FI consultant. I have been doing this for the past four years, and have been through two end-to-end implementation projects. Both of these were domestic projects in India and were "plain vanilla" implementations. I do not have accounting experience or qualifications but I am doing well as an FI consultant. I have learned the hard way. I have a masters degree in computer applications and somehow landed in FI consulting in SAP. Now I'd like to shift to BW/NetWeaver technology. Please let me know what would be the next best step: BW/NetWeaver or SEM?

I don't know if I agree with juxtaposing BW and SEM. BW and SEM are very closely linked, and NetWeaver technologies will ultimately power both of them. So I think you've set up more of a choice than is needed. Why not focus on BW/SEM? This way, you can draw on your financials background via SEM, which will connect better to your current skills, and through SEM, you can gradually gain more and more traction in the BW area. That would give you a nice "techno-functional" skill set.
