Avoiding native SQL

We don?t want to use native sql as a solution for the problem that we have. The issue is to access an Oracle DB and populate/maintain it with data from SAP. We still would like to access the Oracle DB from within SAP. Might ODBC be the answer and if so how would it work? Other solutions within the condition set are welcome.

I am afraid that any solution I could come up with might necessitate a higher maintenance cost than the use of native SQL. Anyway, here is one of many possible solutions: Make an outbound function call from ABAP to a Java program (using JCo as the middleware). The Java program could now use JDBC/ODBC to access your database.
