Applying transports across systems

Am I correct in assuming that it would be possible to apply transports from a system on, say AIX DB2 SAP4.6C to a system on NT SQL Server SAP4.6C? Would the only consideration be to ensure that the two systems are in sync as far as Support Package levels go, or are there other things to take into account?

No. Actually the only transports I know you may apply in systems with the same R/3 release but different RDBMS are from SAP. But, not even all of them are compatible.
Since you're dealing with different database platforms here the fields in some tables are different which may cause transports to fail.
