An SAP BW 3.1 to BI 7.0 upgrade should not take one year

Our company is about to upgrade SAP Business Warehouse (BW) 3.1 to SAP Business Intelligence (BI) 7.0.

These are the objects we currently have in our production system:

Extracts (SAP) -- 141
ODS / DataStore Objects -- 26
InfoCube Objects -- 13
Web Templates -- 115
Queries -- 120
Open Hub / InfoSpokes -- 23

Our consultant estimated almost a one year upgrade for just our development system. I don't have a lot of experience with SAP BI, but this doesn't sound right for me. Could be this be possible?

There are many factors to consider before giving an estimate for an upgrade project. SAP BI 3.1 to 7.0 is a major upgrade and it will definitely take longer than any regular upgrade. This is because there are many differences between 3.1 and 3.5, but even more between 3.5 and 7.0. For a BW system of your size and given the resources you have, I think it should take four to six months to do the upgrade.
