Access to SAP-system from a JCO-Client

I need some help to understand what should be done in order to access SAP-system from JCO-Client(located inside of a firewall)... Here my situation: As far I am connecting via modem/cable everything works fine, but if I run the same client from a protected LAN I receive "partner not reached..." although I can "ping" the remote host... Which port needs to be open or do you have any suggestion?

Do you mean SNC when you say "protected LAN"? In that case you have to supply the appropriate SNC properties in JCo (see Javadoc). If you are not using SNC I need more information on the problem.
